NRI Dr. Oumair Aejaz, 40, Indian doctor residing in the US, has been arrested and charged in a case reminiscent of the notorious Larry Nassar scandal. Authorities in Michigan discovered extensive collections of nude photos and videos of both children and adults, taken in various locations such as swim schools and hospital settings.
Aejaz, who was apprehended on August 8 at his Rochester Hills home, faces multiple charges including child sexually abusive activity, capturing images of unclothed individuals, and using a computer to commit a crime. He is currently being held in the Oakland County Jail with a bond set at $2 million.
The charges include images of a two-year-old, a four-year-old, and two women taken at an Oakland County children's swim school. Investigators suspect these images were captured through a changing stall. Following a tip from Aejaz’s wife, authorities executed a search warrant and discovered additional disturbing materials. They have seized six computers, four cellphones, and 15 external storage devices. One hard drive alone contained 13,000 videos.
Authorities are concerned that there may be more victims and are actively working to identify them. Sheriff Michael Bouchard has indicated that the investigation could take up to six months due to the large volume of material, with the potential for additional evidence in cloud storage.
The case has drawn comparisons to Larry Nassar’s crimes due to its broad and disturbing nature. Bouchard noted the extensive range of victims, from young children to adults, highlighting the severity of Aejaz’s alleged offenses.
Aejaz, who has worked at various hospitals across southeastern Michigan and relocated from India, may face additional scrutiny as investigations continue. Authorities believe the crimes could extend beyond Michigan and potentially reach other states or countries.
