Gurwinder Singh, 37, was found guilty at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday, 18 February. He was convicted of rape, attempted rape, assault by penetration, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of common assault. He is due to be sentenced at the same court on 15 April.

The case highlights the Metropolitan Police’s continued efforts to combat violence against women and girls across London. Detectives believe Singh’s offending may extend beyond this case and are urging any additional victim-survivors to contact police.

The investigation began on 22 June 2025, when a woman reported that she had been raped at a hotel in Paddington. She explained that she had been given contact information for someone claiming to help secure employment. After communicating via WhatsApp, she was told she could receive care work shifts if she provided personal documents, including her National Insurance number and passport details.

She was instructed to attend an address in Paddington on the evening of 21 June to assist in caring for an injured sportsman. Upon arriving at the station, she was approached by a man who introduced himself as a care assistant who would be working alongside her. The pair travelled to a nearby hotel, where she was told the patient would join them shortly.

Moments later, the same man returned, falsely claiming he was the injured sportsman. He undressed and requested a massage. When she refused, he became violent and proceeded to assault and rape her.
