A Singapore court has sentenced NRI Rajwant Singh Gill, a Malaysian national, to 12 years in prison and 15 strokes of the cane for cheating three women by posing as a “sugar daddy” and coercing them into sexual acts under false pretences.
According to court proceedings, Gill deceived the victims by promising financial support, gifts, and business assistance. Trusting his claims, the women agreed to meet him, only to later realise that they had been misled. Prosecutors said Gill never intended to provide the promised benefits and instead exploited the victims for personal gratification.
The court heard that Gill’s actions caused significant emotional and psychological distress to the women. The offences were committed over a period of time and involved calculated deception, which the judge described as serious and aggravating.
In delivering the sentence, the court said the punishment reflected the gravity of the crimes and served as a strong deterrent against similar offences. Singapore’s strict laws allow for caning in cases involving serious sexual and cheating offences.
The case has drawn attention to the risks of online relationships and scams, with authorities urging the public to remain cautious when engaging with individuals who make financial promises in exchange for personal or intimate favours.
