NRI Vishen Lakhiani, entrepreneur and Mindvalley CEO, has spoken out after being stopped and questioned by FBI officials at Miami International Airport, calling the incident an example of growing xenophobia in the United States.
Lakhiani, a well-known Malaysian-Indian tech leader and author, said he was singled out for an extended security check despite having valid travel documents and a long history of visiting the US for business and events. According to him, the interrogation appeared unnecessary and discriminatory.
He shared details of the encounter on social media, expressing concern about the increasing number of immigrants and international professionals facing similar treatment. “This isn’t just about me. It’s about a pattern that many travelers from minority backgrounds are experiencing,” he said.
The incident has sparked conversations within the South Asian and global immigrant communities, with many urging US authorities to review screening procedures to prevent bias and ensure respectful treatment of travelers.
Lakhiani added that while he remains committed to engaging with the US tech and wellness community, he hopes his experience will encourage constructive dialogue on discrimination and reform within federal security agencies.
