NRI Kash Patel, FBI Director, Criticized Over Capitol Riots

NRI Kash Patel, President Donald Trump’s nominee for FBI director, pledged Thursday to shield FBI employees from "political retribution" amid concerns over the Trump administration’s recent firings of Justice Department officials involved in past investigations into the former president.
During his Senate confirmation hearing, Patel denied any role in the dismissal of over a dozen Justice Department lawyers earlier this week, vowing to uphold FBI policies on disciplinary actions.
Democrats pressed Patel on his past remarks downplaying the January 6 Capitol attack and criticizing law enforcement investigations into Trump. He rejected accusations of political bias and opposed pardons for those convicted of assaulting police officers during the riot.
Senator Dick Durbin, the Judiciary Committee’s top Democrat, questioned Patel’s qualifications, while Republican Senator Chuck Grassley defended him as an independent thinker who has exposed corruption in federal agencies.
Despite Republican support, Patel’s confirmation process is expected to be contentious.
