Ambassador Vinay Kwatra, in an official video message posted by the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C., announced a major expansion of India's consular service network across the United States. This expansion will come into effect from August 1, 2025.
He stated that eight new Indian Consular Application Centres will be established in the following U.S. cities:
- Boston
- Columbus
- Dallas
- Detroit
- Addison
- Orlando
- Raleigh
- San Jose
These new centres aim to strengthen consular support for the Indian community residing in the U.S. and make it easier to access services such as passport renewal, OCI applications, visa support, and other essential consular needs.
Ambassador Kwatra highlighted that the new centres will lead to:
- Faster processing and more efficient service delivery
- Improved accessibility, especially for those living far from existing centres
- Extended service days, as all centres will now remain open on Saturdays
In addition, he mentioned the upcoming launch of two new Indian consulates in Boston and Los Angeles, a move previously announced by the Prime Minister of India. These consulates will play a vital role in deepening both bilateral ties and people-to-people connections between India and the U.S.
He urged the Indian diaspora to regularly check the Embassy of India’s website for further updates and detailed information regarding the operational timeline and services of these centres.
This initiative comes as a significant relief for the growing Indian-origin population in the U.S., which currently stands at around 5.4 million, including over 2 million NRIs, as per the Ministry of External Affairs.
