In a troubling development, the residence of Inderjit Singh Gosal, a prominent advocate for the Khalistan movement seeking an independent Sikh homeland in India, was struck by gunfire on Monday. This incident marks the second such attack this month, raising concerns about a potential transnational campaign of violence against Sikh separatists.

Gosal, residing in Brampton, Ontario, is known for his vocal support of the Khalistan movement. The shooting occurred shortly after Gosal announced plans for a rally outside the Indian consulate in Toronto, intensifying worries about the safety of Sikh separatist activists.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, and police have not yet established a direct link between the shooting and Gosal's activism. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but its occurrence after Gosal's rally announcement has sparked speculation about potential targeting related to his pro-Khalistan stance.

Sikhs for Justice, a US-based organization supporting the Sikh self-determination cause, revealed that a construction crew discovered a bullet hole in the window of an unfinished house in Brampton, Ontario, owned by Gosal. This incident adds to the growing concerns surrounding the safety of Sikh separatists in Canada and highlights the need for a thorough investigation into the motives behind such targeted attacks.

As tensions continue to escalate, the incident draws attention to the delicate nature of Canada-India relations, particularly in the aftermath of a recent assassination that sent shockwaves through diplomatic circles. Authorities must address these incidents promptly to ensure the safety of individuals expressing their political beliefs while preventing further strain on bilateral ties.
In a bold statement following a recent gunfire incident targeting his residence, Sikh separatist Inderjit Singh Gosal reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for the liberation of Punjab from what he described as Indian occupation. Gosal, known for organizing Khalistan freedom rallies in front of the Indian consulate, linked the attack to his pro-Khalistan activism and accused the Indian spy network, allegedly operating from diplomatic missions in Canada, of orchestrating the violence.

Gosal, referencing the recent assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Vancouver, suggested a connection between the attacks and the Sikh community's campaign for a Khalistan referendum. Canada had attributed Nijjar's assassination to the Indian government, a claim vehemently denied by India.

The Sikh activist works closely with Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, chief legal counsel for Sikhs for Justice, an organization advocating for Sikh self-determination. Pannun recently survived a thwarted assassination plot in the US, further raising concerns about the safety of Khalistan supporters.

Peel Regional Police in Ontario were alerted by construction crews about a possible bullet hole in Gosal's home, prompting an investigation into the incident. This marks the second attack on a Sikh activist's residence, with the first occurring on February 1 when Simranjeet Singh's home in Surrey, British Columbia, was targeted by at least two gunmen. Singh was closely associated with Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

The series of attacks has heightened tensions between Canada and India, placing diplomatic relations under strain. The Canadian government must address these incidents promptly, ensuring a thorough investigation while also considering the potential diplomatic implications. The recurring violence against Sikh activists raises concerns about the safety of individuals expressing their political beliefs and underscores the need for international attention to prevent further escalation.
