At least seven Indian nationals were injured after a car rammed into a crowded Christmas market in the German city of Magdeburg, leaving at least five people dead on Friday.

According to sources from the Indian news agency UNI, three of the injured Indians have already been discharged from the hospital. The Indian Embassy in Germany is maintaining close contact with all the injured individuals and providing necessary assistance.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs strongly condemned the attack, saying, “We deeply condemn the horrific and senseless act at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany. The loss of precious lives and injuries caused is truly heartbreaking.”
The Ministry also added, “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. The Indian Mission is actively assisting the injured Indian nationals and their loved ones.”

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Indian Embassy in Berlin confirmed their ongoing support, stating: “@eoiberlin is maintaining close contact with Indians who have been injured in the unfortunate attack at the Christmas market in Magdeburg.”

Meanwhile, German authorities have taken the prime suspect into custody. The suspect, identified as 50-year-old Saudi national Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, reportedly arrived in Germany in 2006 and previously worked as a doctor.
Local reports revealed that four women and one young boy were among the victims of the attack, while over 200 people sustained injuries.

The BBC reported that Saudi authorities had issued multiple warnings to German officials about al-Abdulmohsen’s extremist views through official diplomatic notes, but these warnings were allegedly overlooked.
Authorities continue their investigation into the tragic incident, which has cast a shadow over the festive season in Germany.
