on charges of conspiracy to commit murder of NRI couple in Michigan

In 1998, Aasha Chhabra was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis,
the chabra couple had entrusted Narayan Thadani with the sale
of property and transferring funds from India to the US. According
to the press report, in 2006, Aasha had filed a lawsuit against
Thadani for siphoning off their valuable property and possibly
millions of dollars.
On Friday, Narayan Thadani and Douglas Tabor were taken into
custody from the Houston area by the FBI on charges of conspiracy
to commit murder. Prosecutors claim the two El Salvadorian were
promised $100,000 to kill the couple.

After a routine traffic stop, Taylor police stopped two men and
found blood in the car, a handgun and documents bearing the Delaware
address. Police visited the house in Troy and found the bodies
of a married couple who had been shot dead in two upstairs bedrooms.
Troy police have identified the victims as Brij Mohan Chhabra,
65, and his wife Aasha Chhabra, 56. They had both been shot in
the head on Tuesday.
Two El Salvadorian, Miguel Angel Servando, 40, a resident alien
from El Salvador, from Katy, Texas, and Nelson Oswaldo Mendoza,
34, from Houston were arraigned on charges of first-degree murder,
a life felony, and possession of a firearm in the commission of
a felony, which carries a two-year prison term.
Servando, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance-19
pounds of marijuana with intent to manufacture and deliver, but
was not prosecuted. In February, U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement ruled he should be deported.
Mendoza said that he understood the charges. “I did not
use a firearm.Oakland County Prosecutor Kelly Chard asked Martone
to deny bond for the suspects, stating that they were extremely
high flight risks. Mendoza is a legal immigrant.
Brij Chhabra was a yoga teacher and information technology consultant.
He ran a computer software business from his home. He was an active
member of the Detroit Center of SRF and Song of the Morning, the
Yoga Retreat of Golden Lotus, Inc., located in Vanderbilt, Mich.
Brij had served on the board of Song of the Morning almost from
its inception in the early 1970s.
Chhabra's neighbor said, "He was a very nice gentleman,
spiritual, peaceful and trusting.
His wife Aasha was confined to a wheelchair, suffered from Multiple
Sclerosis and had limited use of her hands. Her conditioned worsened
and Chhabra have to hire a nurse to help care for Aasha since
Brij's work often had him traveling out of the state.
The couple has one daughter, who recently graduated from the
University of Michigan.
