Avtar Singh, Sikh Man Kidnapped and Killed in California

NRI Avtar Singh, 57, Sikh man from Tracy, California, was kidnapped in broad daylight outside a gurdwara on February 17 and later found dead near Lake Berryessa in a suspected case of mistaken identity, authorities said.

Surveillance footage showed Singh being forced into a white SUV by three unidentified men near the Gurdwara Gur Nanak Parkash around 2:30 p.m., and he was reported missing later that evening.

Three days later, a body matching Singh’s description was discovered by the Napa County Sheriff’s Office near Lake Berryessa, about 100 miles from where he was abducted. Officials confirmed Singh was not the intended target of the crime, and the case is being investigated as a homicide with detectives urging the public for information.

Singh, who lived at the gurdwara with his wife and their six-month-old triplets, was well known in the community for his long-standing service. His death has left family and the Sikh community in deep mourning.
