Iqbal Singh, a former Asian Championship bronze medallist for India, 62, resident of Newtown Township, Delaware County, called police Sunday morning to tell officers that he had killed his wife and mother.
- The police arrived at Iqbal Singh’s home in Newtown Township and found him covered in blood, suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds.
- The police also found the bodies of the two women- his wife and his mother. Both women were pronounced dead at the scene
- His mother Nasib Kaur, lying unresponsive on the first floor with her throat slit.
- His wife Jaspal Kaur, was found upstairs, similarly wounded.
Iqbal Singh was charged with first- and third-degree murder, remained in custody, and denied bail given the nature of the charges.
Iqbal Singh’s son and daughter told police they had tried to call him and their mother on their cell phones but received no answer. Later Iqbal Singh told them that he had killed the two women and told them to “call the police to come get me.”
Iqbal Singh won a bronze medal at the 1983 Asian Athletics Championship in Kuwait. He was working as a taxicab driver in US.
The motive in the slayings was not clear, according to the police
