NRI K.P. George, Texas County Judge, has been convicted of money laundering in a high-profile campaign finance case. A jury found him guilty of transferring more than $46,000 from his campaign account to personal accounts for personal use, including home-related expenses.
George, who serves in Fort Bend County, argued that the funds were payments on personal loans to his campaign, but prosecutors rejected that claim. Conviction under Texas law carries a sentence of two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
He was taken into custody after the verdict but was later released on bond. Sentencing is scheduled for June 16, after which he could be removed from office under state law.
