NRI Dr. Jitesh Patel, urologist, has agreed to pay $14 million to settle allegations of healthcare fraud involving false billing and medically unnecessary procedures in the United States.

Patel and his practice were accused of billing government healthcare programs such as Medicare and Medicaid for procedures that were either not performed or not medically required. The case was brought under the False Claims Act following whistleblower complaints by former employees.

Investigators alleged that patients were subjected to unnecessary tests and treatments, including invasive procedures and excessive diagnostic screenings, primarily aimed at increasing revenue.

The case was investigated by multiple agencies, including the FBI and the Department of Health and Human Services. Officials stated that the settlement resolves the allegations, and there has been no formal admission of liability by Patel.
