NRI Siddharth 'Sammy' Mukherjee, wife Sunita arrested for $4 million investor fraud

NRI Sidhartha “Sammy” Mukherjee, 40, and his wife Sunita Mukherjee, residents of North Texas, have been arrested on first-degree felony theft charges after allegedly defrauding over 100 investors of approximately $4 million (₹33 crore) in a fabricated real estate investment scheme.
The Mukherjees, well-known within the local Indian‑American community for their high‑society presence and Bollywood‑style performances, are accused of using forged contracts—including fake documentation from the Dallas Housing Authority—to entice victims with promises of lucrative returns.
Forensic accountants brought in by the FBI confirmed at least $4 million in investor losses, with dozens more potential victims still being identified.
Detective Brian Brennan of Euless Police described the case as one of the most complex fraud operations he's seen: “In [my] 23 years, [Sammy Mukherjee] is probably the most prolific fraudster I've seen. Tentacles going in all different directions.”
The couple was arrested in June in Tarrant County. Each posted a $500,000 bond; however, Sammy Mukherjee was subsequently detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The authorities also uncovered the misuse of pandemic relief funds through fictitious companies and forged payroll records.
