Los Angeles/June 12, 2025 NRI Dr. Mona Ghosh, 52, obstetrician-gynecologist, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison following her conviction for orchestrating a $2.4 million health care fraud scheme. Dr. Ghosh owned and operated Progressive Women’s Healthcare, S.C., based in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. From 2018 to 2022, she submitted fraudulent insurance claims to Medicaid, TRICARE, and private insurers—billing for unnecessary procedures such as endometrial ablations, biopsies, ultrasounds, vaccinations, lab tests, and STD screenings—often without patient consent. Additionally, she inflated appointment times and complexity—both in-office and via telemedicine—by using incorrect billing codes and fabricated patient records to justify higher reimbursements. A federal judge also ordered Dr. Ghosh to pay approximately $1.5 million in restitution. Prosecutors criticized her actions as “particularly egregious,” noting that some procedures risked patients’ fertility.
