NRI Arif Patel, businessman, UK court has ordered to repay more than £90 million after orchestrating one of Britain’s largest counterfeit clothing and VAT fraud schemes.
On 28 August 2025, Chester Crown Court issued a confiscation order requiring Patel to surrender £90,503,211 or face extended prison time. The order follows his 2023 conviction for false accounting, conspiracy to cheat the public revenue, money laundering, and running counterfeit clothing and VAT carousel fraud.
Patel’s network defrauded the UK of £33.4 million through sham VAT refund claims and sold counterfeit designer clothing worth over £19 million. Operating through Faisal Tex Ltd, he laundered proceeds into a vast property empire spanning the UK, Morocco, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
Authorities will seize assets including luxury properties and a Ferrari 575 Super America, with proceeds reinvested into public services. Patel, 57, was convicted in absentia and sentenced alongside co-conspirator Mohamed Jaffar Ali to a combined 31 years in prison.
Officials hailed the ruling as one of the largest confiscations under the Proceeds of Crime Act, ensuring that Patel’s illicit wealth is reclaimed for the public good.
