                          NON-RESIDENT Indian Aniruddh N Mani 
                            (28) was arrested by the Bund Garden police in a cheating 
                            case on Tuesday. 
                          Inspector Mahendra Pardeshi from Bund Garden police 
                            station said Ashutosh Chandrakant Kulkarni, general 
                            manager of Seasons Service company had lodged a complaint 
                            alleging that a cheque issued by Mani as rent for 
                            a flat taken on lease from the company had been dishonoured. 
                          
                           The firm provides apartments on rent. Kulkarni alleged 
                            that Mani had availed the services of the company 
                            to take flats on lease in Koregaon Park for himself 
                            and two other persons between February 11 and February 
                            27. 
                          Mani, who was required to pay Rs 72,000 to the company, 
                            issued a cheque of Rs 80,000 which was dishonoured 
                            when deposited. Mani and his aged grandmother Shanta 
                            Narayan Swamy were living at the rented apartment. 
                          
                          Investigations have revealed that Mani was involved 
                            in duping some hotels, car dealers and hospitals in 
                            the city. 
                          According to Pardeshi, Mani had stayed at Hotel Sun-n-Sand 
                            on Bund Garden Road on February 16 and 17. He allegedly 
                            issued a cheque of over Rs two lakh to the hotel saying 
                            that he was going to stay for a month. He was asked 
                            to leave when the cheque bounced. 
                          Mani had also issued cheques of Rs 41 lakh and Rs 
                            16 lakh to car dealers for a Pajero and a Sonata which 
                            also bounced. The cars were not delivered to Mani. 
                          
                          He admitted his grandmother to a private hospital 
                            in Kothrud last month and the cheque of Rs 30,000 
                            he issued to settle the bills too bounced, said Pardeshi. 
                            Mani has been remanded to police custody till March 
                            5 and his passport has been seized. He is being questioned 
                            for details.
