Four NRI senior citizens, who had gone missing during a road trip in the United States, were tragically found dead following a car crash. Authorities confirmed the incident late Friday.
The Marshall County Sheriff's Office in West Virginia reported that the family's vehicle, a light green Toyota Camry, was discovered around 9:30 pm on August 2. The car had veered off a steep embankment along Big Wheeling Creek Road in Marshall County.
The victims were identified as Asha Divan, Kishore Divan, Shailesh Divan, and Gita Divan. The group had been traveling from Buffalo, New York, toward Pittsburgh, with plans to continue to Moundsville, West Virginia.
They had prepaid accommodations booked at Prabhupada’s Palace of Gold for Tuesday night but never checked in. When calls to their cell phones went unanswered, concerns grew, and authorities were alerted.
A search and rescue helicopter was deployed on Friday to scour the suspected travel route. Until the vehicle was found, there had been no signs of the group or their car.
The last confirmed sighting of the family occurred on Tuesday at a Burger King located on Peach Street in Erie, Pennsylvania. Surveillance footage showed two members entering the restaurant. Their final credit card transaction was also made there.
There were faint clues on Wednesday morning when signals from their cell phones were briefly picked up in the areas of Wheeling and Moundsville at approximately 3 am.
A missing persons report had been filed in Buffalo, New York. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is now coordinating with New York authorities to investigate the circumstances leading to the tragic accident.
