Navpreet Singh Dhaliwal (28), originally from Sudhar village in Punjab’s Ludhiana district, was shot dead in Abbotsford, Canada. The shooting took place in West Abbotsford on Friday, sparking a large-scale police operation.
Abbotsford’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) had previously confirmed that the killing was gang-related, although the victim’s identity was initially withheld. Investigators are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and have identified Dhaliwal as the victim.
Donny Bal, a known gang leader who had previously claimed responsibility for the killings of kabaddi promoter Rana Balachaur and Sarpanch Jharmal Singh, has also allegedly claimed responsibility for Dhaliwal’s murder. Police have not officially confirmed the claim and said the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities believe the killings are part of a larger conflict between rival drug gangs operating in the area. No arrests have been announced so far, and police are asking witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
