Surrey Car Collision Takes the Life of 23-Year-Old

On the evening of April 12, 2024, Surrey RCMP officers swiftly responded to a distressing collision at the intersection of 61A Avenue and 144 Street, marking the onset of a tragic incident. At approximately 8:37 p.m., emergency services arrived to find a 23-year-old male pedestrian grievously injured after being struck by a Mercedes GLK 250. The pedestrian, later identified as Gursahib Singh Batth, was promptly rushed to the hospital alongside the driver of the Mercedes, an adult woman. Despite medical efforts, Batth succumbed to his injuries, casting a somber shadow over the community.

Tragedy struck Mahddipura village as news surfaced of the untimely demise of a promising youth, Gursahib Singh (23), in a road accident abroad. Gursahib, who had embarked on a journey to Canada for educational pursuits on March 13, 2024, met with a fatal accident on April 13. In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, Gursahib's grieving family, led by his father Palwinder Singh Bath, urgently appealed to both the Central and Punjab Governments to facilitate the airlifting of his body back to India for final rites.

Initial inquiries unveiled a sequence of events that not only involved the pedestrian but also entangled other vehicles at the scene. The Mercedes, allegedly speeding, collided with a stationary Ford F150 waiting at a red light, resulting in the Ford overturning from the impact. Furthermore, a Porsche and Honda Civic, also halted at the signal, bore the brunt of the collision, sustaining damages. Fortunately, occupants of these vehicles suffered only minor injuries amidst the chaos.

The investigation, still unfolding, hints at speed as a potential catalyst in the unfolding tragedy. However, the driver of the Mercedes, now discharged from the hospital, has been forthcoming in cooperating with authorities as they piece together the puzzle of events leading to the fatal collision.

In the wake of this heart-wrenching loss, the community has rallied together to support Batth's family in their time of need. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched with the noble aim of assisting in the repatriation of Batth's remains to India, a gesture underscoring the depth of compassion and solidarity within the community.

As the investigation continues, the tragic loss of Gursahib Singh Batth serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety measures to prevent such devastating incidents from recurring.
