NRI Dashan Singh Sahsi, 68, president of textile recycling business Canam Group, Canada, died of his injuries following the attack at around 9:22 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 27.

He was shot when got into his dark-colored vehicle parked on the street in the 31300 block of Ridgeview Drive, Abbotsford

Police were called to the scene after residents reported the sound of gunfire near a quiet residential neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers found Darshan Singh Sahsi, believed to be in his 68s, unresponsive in the driver’s seat of his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical assistance, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are exploring multiple angles, including targeted attack and business rivalry, but have not ruled out other motives. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the case and is appealing for witnesses and CCTV footage from the area to aid the ongoing investigation.

  • About 40% of the collected clothing is reused, while the rest is mechanically shredded into fibers for insulation, wipers and carpets.
  • In 2013, Sahsi testified before the International Trade Committee, highlighting the employment of 70-80 people at his company at the time.
