Chandan Kumar Raja Nandakumar, 37, was fatally shot at Woodbine Plaza in Brampton.
Peel Regional Police said officers responded to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of the plaza and found Nandakumar suffering from serious gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are investigating and reviewing CCTV footage from nearby businesses. They have appealed for anyone with witnesses or video recordings of the incident to come forward.
Chandan was a computer science graduate from Sapthagiri College in Bengaluru.
He had moved to Canada about six years ago and was working with LTI Mindtree, a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro.
TPS Inspector Errol Watson told the media, acknowledging the fear caused by the incident. "I can understand how a shooting like this, especially in a mall, could be a concern for public safety,".
