NRI from Kerala to set up 150-bed hospital In Duba:
Dubai, Mar 8 :
A non-resident Indian businessman plans
to set up a hospital in Dubai which will be positioned
as a key general healthcare provider.
This will be the second hospital in the Dubai Healthcare
City (DHCC) started by Sunny Varkey, an NRI hailing
from Kerala, who also runs a network of top-end schools
in the UAE and has recently branched off into setting
up state-of-the art hospitals in the emirate.
Welcare World Health Systems, the healthcare consultancy
and management arm of Varkey's group, had previously
entered into an agreement with DHCC for developing
"The City Hospital", a premium 210-bed hospital
that will be positioned as a Centre of Excellence
in Cardiology and Orthopaedics. The hospital is currently
under design by US hospital designer firm Ellerbe
Becket and is scheduled to commence operation by mid-2007.
Welcare World has acquired international affiliation
of George Washington University Hospital (GWUH), thus
ensuring high standards of care throughout its planning
and operational stages.
"It is our intention to extend the reputation
of Welcare Hospital to Dubai Healthcare City"
said Varkey.
"We are determined to create a new paradigm
in healthcare planning with advanced technology in
collaboration with top-notch institutions in healthcare",
said C N Radhakrishnan, Executive Director, Varkey
Group.
"Creating strategic international partnerships
in the delivery of quality healthcare is indeed the
way to go", he added. PTI
