Capt. Kanwaljit Singh urges Union
Defence Minister to do away with the quota
system in recruitment

Punjab Defence Services Welfare Minister Capt. Kanwaljit Singh
today called on Union Defence Minister Mr. AK Antony in New Delhi
and urged him to do away the quota system on army recruitment from
Punjab and base the system of it only on merit as the Punjabi youth
from were more meritorious and have good physique as comparable
to candidate from other states.
During the meeting Capt. Singh raised number of issues relation
to serving and ex-servicemen including one rank-one pension..He
told the union minister that youth from Punjab is more meritorious
in physical standards than other parts of the country and Punjabis
are always ahead when it comes for safeguarding the borders of the
country. He said that two percent quota system was hindrance in
fare recruitment for the forces.
He also urged the minister to shift the training centre of the
Sikh Regiment located in Jharkhand to Punjab as the regiment has
majority of its members from the state. He said that its shifting
would benefit a lot to the soldiers from Punjab and offered every
possible help from Punjab government. It is worth mentioning here
that this centre of training was shifted from Meerut to Jharkhand
way back in 1976.
Capt. Kanwaljit Singh also took up the issue of anomalies in the
recommendation of sixth pay commission for forces. He informed the
union minister that there was a great resentment amongst the ex
soldiers due to these certain faulty recommendations of the commission
and expressed apprehension that in case the anomalies were not sorted
out it could result in decreasing the craze of joining army amongst
the youth and pointed out that army was already facing acute shortage
of young officers.. He said that it was high time to boost the morale
of the forces which were fighting on brave heartedly with the insurgency
also and makes a significant contribution in helping the distressed
public in case of any calamity and cited the example of recent Bihar
floods during which army did a commendable job in ensuring the safe
rescue of hapless and poor people.
He also emphasized the need to ensure more result oriented training
for the appropriate rehabilitation of retired soldiers.
On this occasion Mr. Antony assured Capt. Kanwaljit Singh of necessary
and immediate action on the demands raised during the meeting and
appreciated the role of soldiers from Punjab in establishing the
Indian army as a most disciplined and brave force of the world.
PUNJAB CM CONDOLES THE DEMISE OF MOHALI BASED VICTIMS IN MUMBAI
TERROR ATTACK

Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today expressed deep
shock and anguish over the tragic demise of Mohali based young Hotel
Management trainee Jasmine Kaur and the wife of General Manager
of Taj Hotel Nidhi Kang and her two sons uday and Samar who were
killed in different terror attacks in Hotel Oberoi and Taj in Mumbai
yesterday.
In a condolence message Mr. Badal pray to the almighty to give
strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss and grant peace
to the departed souls. Mr. Badal assured the members of the bereaved
families that the Punjab government would stand by them in this
hour of crisis greif.
Meanwhile, SAD President and Member Parliament Mr. Sukhbir Singh
Badal and Information and Public Relations Minister Mr. Bikram Singh
Majithia also shared their heartfelt condolences and sympathies
over the tragic loss of precious lifes.

MOTHER

Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today expressed
profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Smt. Kirshana Devi
mother of Mr. AS Prashar, Bureau Chief Hind Samachar Group of Newspapers
based at Chandigarh. She passed away here after a brief illness
at 90 and is survived by three sons and two daughters.
Mr. Badal expressed his heartfelt sympathies with the members of
the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty to give strength
and courage to them to bear this irreparable loss and grant peace
to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, the President Shiromani Akali Dal and Member Parliament
Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal and Information & Public Relations Minister
Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia also condoled the death of Smt. Kirshana
Devi.
Media Advisor to Chief Minister Mr. Harcharan Bains, also shared
his condolences with the bereaved family. Mr. D.S. Jaspal and Mr.
Tejveer Singh, Principal Secretary and Director Information &
Public Relations, Punjab also mourned the death of Smt. Kirshana
Devi.
Later, in the afternoon she was cremated at the local cremation
grounds and the people from different walks of life attended the

BADAL ORDERS FARM LABOUR TO BE INCLUDED IN THE SURVEY
OF PAU

Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today directed the
State Financial Commissioner (Development) to also get the cases
of suicides committed by the farm labour included in the ongoing
survey conducted by the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the Punjab Government
said that the 'Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union' had urged the Chief Minister
to includeP these cases of suicides by the farm labour alongwith
the farmers in the survey of PAU for the purpose of comprehensive
study to ascertain the possible cause and extent of these suicides
in the agriculture sector.
BADAL WRITES TO ADMINISTRATOR UT TO IMPLEMENT AMMENDED
EAST PUNJAB URBAN RENT RESTRICTION ACT 1949 IN CHANDIGARH

In a significant move aimed at ensuring expeditious possession
of urban properties from tenants in Punjab to NRIs, the Punjab Chief
Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal has urged the Governor Punjab and
Administrator UT Gen. (Retd.) S.F.Rodrigues to implement the amended
East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act 1949 in Union Territory of
Chandigarh.
In a communiqué addressed to Gen. Rodrigues, the Chief Minister
said that the Punjab Government had amended the East Punjab Urban
Rent Restriction Act 1949 vide issuing notification on 31st May,
2001 for paving the way for NRIs to get quick possession of their
properties. He pointed out that though Chandigarh was the capital
town of Punjab, the said amendment was not still applicable to Chandigarh.
Mr. Badal also mentioned that the NRI Sabha, Punjab had requested
Punjab Government to take steps to get the amended act made applicable
to UT, Chandigarh.
It may be recalled that the Punjab NRIs have maintained close
ties with their motherland and played a significant role in the
growth and development of the State. The State Government had been
taking various steps to mitigate the problems faced by them and
one of these problems related to grabbing of NRI properties by unscrupulous
elements, added Mr. Badal.

Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia, Patron, Youth Akali Dal today appealed
to the people of Delhi to exercise their right of franchise in favour
of BJP-SAD combine, promising them corruption free, transparent
,progressive administration and most importantly guaranteeing them
security of their life and property by providing them accountable
law and order machinery.
In an appeal issued to the voters of Delhi on the eve of Vidhan
Sabha polls, Mr Majithia said that the most important moment in
their life has come when they have to choose between overall progress
and recession, between a regime of ever increasing prices and stable
prize regime, between an environment of insecurity and terror full
life and government having total control on law and order.
Mr Majithia said that the BJP-SAD combine does not want to comment
on law and order situation in the country and increasing terror
attacks, as voters themselves were intelligent enough to access
the performance of UPA government on this front.
YAD Patron said that it was unfortunate that people already under
tremendous stress due to day-to-day rising prices , increasing blue
line accidents, continuous power and water failures, also have to
live under a constant fear of terror , unsure about security of
life for next moment.
He said that the 'Economists duo' run government have ruined the
nation' s economy beyond redemption, fiddled with stock market set
up to reduce to rubble the hard earned money of crores of innocent
investors. He said that the capitalist run government was playing
in the hands of few industrial houses, mortgaging the interests
of common people.
Issuing an impassioned appeal to the voters of Delhi to vote in
favour of BJP-SAD combine , Mr Majithia said that he has full faith
in the voters of Delhi who always took right decision at right time
to overthrow arrogant and dictatorial Congress governments in past
also.
