SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB WORLD UNIVERSITY TO
BE LAUNCHED IN JULY NEXT YEAR

Sri Guru Sahib World University would be formally launched in
July next year. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting
of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Fourth Centenary Memorial Trust here
today. The meeting was chaired by the Punjab Chief Minister Mr.
Paraksh Singh Badal.
This World Class Professional University would be set up at Fatehgarh
Sahib to impart hi-tech quality education in collaboration with
renowned educational institutions across the globe.
Disclosing this, Mr. Harcharan Bains, Media Advisor to the Chief
Minister said that apart from intensive work on Guru Granth Sahib
studies, the University would focus on imparting education in
post modern technologies such as Nano-technology, Bio-technology,
Information Technology and Business Management besides comparative
study of different religions. These courses would be introduced
in the inaugural academic session next year.
Later, the University would also house the faculties in Emerging
Technologies, Basic Sciences, Management, Social Sciences, Arts,
Languages, Engineering, Architecture, Law and Social Justice.
Work would woon commence on the construction of the Complex.
The university was being established by the Shiromani Gurdwara
Prabhandak Committee under the Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University
Act which had already come into force. It may also be recalled
that this historic Act to establish and incorporate Sri Guru Granth
Sahib World University is the fulfillment of a pledge given by
Mr.Badal at the time of commemoration of 400th anniversary of
Sri Adi (Guru) Granth Sahib and its installation in Sri Harmandar
Sahib and is also a celebration of the 300th anniversary of Sri
Guru Granth Sahib Gurgaddi Purb, this year.
The meeting was by the SGPC Chief Sardar Avtar Singh, Advocate
General Punjab HS Mattewal, MLA Sirhind Didar Singh Bhatti, Dr.Karanjot
Kaur, S. Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, Secretary, SGPC and Dr.Jasbir Singh
Ahluwalia, former Vice Chancellor of the Punjabi University.
ROTATIONAL IRRIGATION PROGRAMME FOR KHARIF
SEASON ANNOUNCED

The Irrigation Department, Punjab has announced the Rotational
Programme for irrigation for the Kharif Season through Canal water
from 29th May to 5th June, 2008. The channels of Sirhind Canal
System would run on priority basis from Abohar Branch, Patiala
feeder, Bhatinda Branch, Bist Doab Canal and Sidhwan Branch Canal
respectively.
Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the irrigation department
said that direct distributaries of Ghaggar link and its off taking
channels i.e. Ghaggar Branch and Patiala Minor in Group 'B' being
in the Ist preference will run to their indent. Balance water
supplies available will be utilised in direct distributaries of
Bhakra main line of Group 'A'.
The spokesman further said that the Punjab channels off taking
from Harika and Ferozepur Head Works & Branches i.e. Abohar
Branch off taking from Sirhind Feeder and its distributaries of
group "B" would run on first preference to their indent.
Balance water supplies available would be utilised in direct distributaries
of Sirhind Feeder in Group "A".
The spokesman also said that the channels off taking from Upper
Bari Doab Canal i.e. Kasur Branch Lower with its distributaries
being in first Preference would run to their indent, Balance Surplus
water available would be utilised in Sabraon Branch, Lahore Branch,
Main Branch lower and with its distributaries.
PUNJAB FOCUS ON ECO-TOURISM

The Punjab Government today decided to integrate the state wide
thrust an infrastructure development with eco-tourism.
A preliminary meeting was held with Punjab Chief Minister Mr.
Parkash Singh Badal In chair to explore the various eco-tourism
destinations in the state and to develop a mechanism for its integration
with the modernization institutions in infrastructure development
in the state.
The meeting was attended by Media Advisor to Chief Minister
Harcharan Bains, Principal Secretary Tourism Geetika Kalha, Secretary
PWD (B&R) Karan Avtar Singh, Managing Director Punjab Infrastructure
Development Board & Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister

KJS Cheema and Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister
Gagandeep Singh Brar besides the representatives of World Tourism
Organization, Team Leader Richard Batchelor and Environment Expert
Jay Blakeney and who had been engaged for finalizing the Punjab
Tourism Master Plan.
PUNJAB CM CONDOLES THE SAD DEMISE OF THE
FATHER OF GURJIND SANDHU

Punjab Chief Minister Mr.Parkash Singh Badal today expressed
profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Sqdn. Leader
(Retd.) Mehar Singh Sandhu (62) the father of Mr. Gurjjind Sandhu,
Deputy Chief Illustrator, Hindustan Times, Chandigarh who died
of brain hemorrhage here at his residence in Mohali.
Mr. Badal expressed his heartfelt sympathies with the members
of the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty to grant peace
to the departed soul and give strength and courage to them to
bear this irreparable loss.
Member Parliament and President Shiromani Akali Dal Mr. Sukhbir
Singh Badal also condoled the death of Sqdn.Leader Retd. Mehar
Singh Sandhu.

also shared his condolences with the bereaved family. Media Advisor,

CHECK ACTIVITIES OF CATHOLICS DENIGRATING
YOGA - TIKSHAN SUD

Senior BJP leader and Medical Education Minister Mr. Tikshan
Sud today demanded a global watch on the nefarious activities
of Catholics who denigrating the ancient Yoga through a systematic
campaign.
Reacting sharply to the studies conducted by the priest of Leader
of Catholics suggesting that Yoga can attract bad souls in the
body of person practicing Yoga, Mr. Sud said that Catholics Christians
worried by the increasing popularity of Yoga amongst the western
population, have started this campaign to degrade the Yoga. The
BJP leader said that Union Government should have taken this campaign
seriously and objected to it through diplomatic channels as it
was attack on ancient Indian science, hurting the feelings of
one billion Indians.
Attacking the UPA Government for failing to protect the ancient
science of Yoga from the systematic sullying campaign launched
by Catholics, Mr. Sud said that it was regrettable that strings
of UPA Government were controlled by a Catholic lady who was determined
to implement the Vatican agenda in India. The BJP leader said
that spread of Yoga through out the world has threatened the Christians,
both Catholics as well as Protestants and they have engaged into
this campaign to distract their population getting attracted to
Yoga.
Mr. Sud said that BJP was committed to protect the ancient Indian
culture as well as Yoga and any attack on our ancient science
would be suitably rebutted by the citizens this oldest civilization.
