Badal today dared the Congress leadership in the state to prove the sincerity of their decision to resign from the Punjab Vidhan Sabha by forwarding their resignations to the Speaker.

Rakhra (Patiala) 18 May 2008

The Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today dared the Congress leadership in the state to prove the sincerity of their decision to resign from the Punjab Vidhan Sabha by forwarding their resignations to the Speaker. Mr. Badal said that the Congress resort to cheap theatricals was the outcome of the utter frustration of the that party following its rout at the hustings. The results of the Corporation and now the Zila Parisha and Samiti polls would have a major bearing on the outcome of the Parliamentary elections in Punjab, said the Chief Minister.

"Stuntmanship is no substitute for statesmanship. The fact of the matter is that the Congress has suffered the most humiliating defeat in the history of Punjab and the party was completely at a loss to formulate a credible and honourable response to their debacle. That is why in stead of humbly accepting the verdict of the people of Punjab, the Congress leadership is busy either levelling flimsy and baseless allegations or indulging in lowly showmanship, like enacting the transparently dishonest theatre of the absurd in the form of the so-called offer of resignations from the Punjab Asssembly," said the Chief Minister.

Mr. Badal was speaking to newsmen at village Rakhra before paying homage to Mata Jaswant Kaur mother of the Akali leader Surjit Singh Rakhra, prominent NRI's Mr. Darshan Singh Dhaliwal & Mr. Charanjit Singh Dhaliwal.

The Chief Minister said that all independent observers, including the media and the Election Commission have found the entire the poll process as one of the most free and fair exercises in living memory.

Replying to a question about the absence of Capt. Amarinder Singh during the poll campaign, Mr. Badal said that the former Chief Minister was busy raising a toast to his Pakistani friend at the latter's birthday bash. His absence, if anything may only saved things from going even worse for the Congress.

Mr. Badal thanked the people of Punjab for reposing their complete trust in the SAD-BJP alliance for the third time running. The Alliance had swept the Corporation poll after winning the Assembly elections.. The Chief Minister had a special word of thanks for the leaders and the workers of the alliance partners and said that it was through their untiring efforts that the high standards of governance, peace, development and the constructive vision of the government could be successfully placed before the people.

Later the Chief Minister paid rich tribute to Mata Jaswant Kaur Mother of Mr. Surjit Singh Rakhra President NRI wing of SAD and prominent NRI brother Mr. Darshan Singh Dhaliwal & Mr. Charanjit Singh Dhaliwal.
