IRRIGATION PROGRAMME FOR KHARIF SEASON
ANNOUNCED

The Irrigation Department, Punjab has announced the Rotational
irrigation Programme for the Kharif Season through Canal water
from 22 June to 29 June, 2008. The channels of Sirhind Canal System
would run on priority basis from Sidhwan Branch, Bhatinda Branch,
Bist Doab Canal, Patiala feeder and Abohar Branch respectively.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesman of the Irrigation department
said that direct distributaries of Bhakra Main Line, in Group
'A' being in the first preference would run to their indent. Balance
water supplies would be utilised in Ghaggar link and its off taking
channels i.e. Ghaggar Branch and Patiala Minor in Group 'B' respectively.
The spokesman further said that the Punjab channels off taking
from Harika and Ferozepur Head Works & Branches i.e. all the
direct distributaries of Sirhind Feeder in-group "A"
being in the first preference would run to their indent. Balance
water supplies would be utilised in Abohar Branch off taking from
Sirhind Feeder and its distributaries/minors in-group "B".
The spokesman also said that the channels off taking from upper
Bari Doab Canal i.e. Lahore Branch with its distributaries being
in first Preference would run to their indent. Balance Surplus
water available would be utilised in Main Branch Lower, Kasur
Branch Lower and Sabraon Branch with its distributaries.
SHOPS AND COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENT TO OBSERVER "CLOSED
DAY" ON SUNDAY

To enable employees working in the shops and commercial establishment
in the state of Punjab and all other persons connected with the
shops and commercial establishments to exercise their franchise
in the General Election to Municipal Corporation, Bhatinda and
bye election to Ward No. 41 of Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar
to be held on 22nd June, 2008, the Punjab Government has declared
that 22nd June, 2008 (Sunday) shall be the 'Closed day" for
all shops and commercial establishments in the municipal limits
where elections are held and where "Sunday" is not a
close day, in lieu of 'close day" falling on any day between
15-6-2008 and 29-6-2008.

To enable the workmen working in the factories situated within
the Jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation, Bathinda and Municipal
Corporation, Jalandhar to exercise their franchise in the jurisdiction
of General Election of Municipal Corporation, Bathinda and bye-election
of Ward No. 41 of Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar to be held
on 22nd June, 2008, the Punjab Government has declared that 22nd
June, 2008 (Sunday) shall be the weekly paid holiday for all factories
where " Sunday" is not close day within the jurisdiction
of the above said Municipal Corporations in lieu of their normal
weekly holiday. This was disclosed here today by concerned department.

The Punjab Government has declared holiday on June 30, 2008
(Monday) in its all Punjab Government Offices, all offices of
Corporations/Boards and all Educational Institutions within the
State of Punjab and at Chandigarh on account of General Election
of Municipal Councils/Nagar Panchayats and by-election of Nagar
Panchayat.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesman said that it
shall also be holiday within the meaning of section 25 of the
Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881 within the State of Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister, S. Parkash Singh Badal, today visited
the house of Sh. Harish Bedi MLA at Janakpuri and condoled the
death of his mother Shmt. Chander Kanta who was expired a few
days back with him and other members of the family. Expressing
his sympathies with family, the Chief Minister said that late
Shmt. Chander Kanta was a noble soul, who had been engaged in
the religious and social services through out her life and also
had been serving the needful poor people with full devotion. Mr.
Badal said that the demise of such personalities was an irreparable
loss not only to the family but to the entire society. He said
that remembering such saintly personalities, we must dedicate
ourselves to follow their foot steps to serve the people earnestly
and honestly. He said that her entire family particularly son
Sh. Harish Bedi was always ahead to serve the weaker sections
of the society and contributing towards the fast development of
the state.
