The decision to reserve 10 pc seats for bright poor students in eng. collegses welcomes

Attention towards medical colleges demanded.

Chandigarh, June 16, 2008

The parents of Batch -2207 students of MBBS has welcomed the Punjab government's decision for having reservation of 10 percent per cent seats for poor meritorious students from rural background in private engineering colleges in Punjab.

Punjab government has asked the managements of private engineering colleges to provide education for free, covering fee, books and board and travelling expenses to poor meritorious students. The Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal offered government support to colleges adopting this scheme.

In statement issued here today Parents urged Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal that similar system should be adopted in private medical and dental colleges of Punjab. They said that the notification issued by Punjab medical and education department on August 3, 2007 has forced about 100 brilliant students to leave their seats in private medical and dental colleges as they did not afford the revised fee structure.

The Government had increased fee in management quota to three times for meritorious students, who have got good rank, According to notification issued by Punjab government on 03.08.07 and fixed 1.15 lakh for Government Quota and 3.00 lacs for management quota in private colleges for MBBS students under pressure from the lobby of managements of private colleges carried out the present fee hike without taking into consideration the views of students or their parents. Earlier it was fixed as 1.00lacs for both government and management quota.

There is no end of wretchedness of students of management quota as the Adesh institute medical sciences and research (AIMSR) has directed all the students of batch 2007 students of MBBS to deposit the tuition fee and other dues for the session 2008-09 by June 24. The notice which was displayed at notice board of AISMR instructed that fine will be levied on those students who will not deposit fee on time. Whereas the prospectus given to batch 2007 students, has clearly mentioned that 2nd installment fee for the year 2008-09 will be deposited by July 16, 2008.

The parents lamented and said that at one side government has been giving reservation to poor students in engineering colleges but they have become deaf for medical students. They have already urged Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Medical Education Minister Tikhshan Sood to give directions to Adesh Institute of medical science and Research (AIMSR) not to take fee in advance of second prof.

They said that since everybody has its financial plans and we have been thinking that we will deposit fee on July 16. The current notice of AIMSR has put financial plans into trouble.

Students who have been preparing themselves for the university examination scheduled to be started on July 2 were in deep shock. They said that since the university examination was yet to started and result will be likely in the end of July and the institute has been demanding the fee was the totally injustice to them. They said the institute should ask for the fee after the result of Ist prof. and before the commencement of 2ndprof.
