PUNJAB DGP UNDERLINES THE NEED TO CHECK
THE
FLOW OF COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY

Punjab DGP Sh N.P.S. Aulakh today underlined the need to effectively
check the flow of counterfeit currency in the state and described
it as a major challenge for the internal security as well as the
economy of the country.
He was presiding over a meeting of a state level committee constituted
to deal with forge currency notes and their circulation. The DGP
informed that the recovery of fake currency notes of worth Rs
45.38 lac in the state during current year (up to 30th June )
was an indication of the quantum of circulation of fake currency
notes and it was aimed to destabilize the economy of the country.
Last year fake currency to the tune of Rs 84 lac was seized, he
added.
He asked the representatives from Reserve Bank of India to put
forth their suggestions to check the growing menace of counterfeit
currency and assured every possible help from the State Police.
The field officers were directed to ascertain the source of fake
currency to check its flow. Regarding the media reports regarding
melting of currency coins on large scale, he also emphasized the
need to thoroughly probe this matter.¬
The Police Chief also directed that in case of large recovery
of fake currency the services of Enforcement Directorate and Income
tax officials should also be sought to investigate the wider ramifications.
Keeping in view the seriousness of the issue and to sensitize
the field officials in this regard, the detection and investigation
of cases of fake currency would be introduced as a subject in
all training programs being conducted at PPA, Phillaur as well
as in the syllabus of the district level training schools.
The Police Chief urged the senior bank officials to impress
upon the branches of various banks in the State to strengthen
their security arrangements by making installation of close-circuit-cameras
and alarms at vital points compulsory and also offered the services
of recently trained youth of the State by the Punjab Police, for
security related duties.
SUKHBIR BADAL ASSAILS DABWALI INCIDENT
DEMANDS IMMEDIATE ARREST OF GUILTY

Member of Parliament and Shiromani Akali Dal President Mr. Sukhbir
Singh Badal strongly condemned the incidents of violence in Dabwali
(Haryana), described as mischievous statements coming from Dera
sources.
In a statement released here, Mr. Sukhbir Badal said that the
SAD-BJP Government is totally committed to peace and communal
harmony and will not allow any anti social aliments to disturb
the hard earned atmosphere of peace and communal harmony in Punjab.
Mr. Badal said that the highest priority of the SAD-BJP Government
is Punjabi unity and peace. "No one would be allowed to play
any mischief with it", said Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal. He asked
the Haryana Government to immediately book and arrest the guilty
involved in this heinous crime.
Mr.Sukhbir Badal shared his condolences with the family members
of the deceased and prayed to the God to give courage to bear
this loss and grant peace to the departed soul.

condemned the incident of the clash between Dera Sacha Sauda followers
and members of local Satkar Sabha in Dabwali (Haryana) which resulted
in the death of one person.
In a statement Mr. Badal termed the incident as 'extremely sad
and unfortunate' and appealed to the peace loving Punjabis to
maintain peace communal harmony and amity.
Mr. Badal urged the Haryana government to take immediate action
under law against all the guilty. He also appealed the people
to exercise restraint despite provocation by the some anti social
elements which were bent upon to tarnish the social fabric of
our society. Mr. Badal also appreciated the Punjabis' indomitable
spirit for showing exemplary courage and tolerance in such trying
situations earlier also and hoped to once again give a befitting
reply to the fissiparous forces inimical to our age old ties of
brotherhood and harmony.
Mr. Badal expressed his heart felt sympathies with the members
of the bereaved family and prayed to Almighty to give strength
and courage to bear this irreparable loss and grant peace to the
departed soul.
Meanwhile the Chief Minister also directed the state Director
General of Police to beef up security and to keep a strict vigil
over the situation.

to make Punjab clean and green.

Punjab Chief Minister, Mr. Parkash Singh Badal, today asked
the representatives of the industry, Chairmen and Vice Chairmen
of Punjab Large & Medium Industry and Small Scale Industry
Boards to suggest ways and means to combat the menace water pollution,
which had posed a great threat to the very existence of the human
beings.
Addressing on the State Level function of 59th 'Van Maha Utsav'
here at PAU after planting a sapling to mark the occasion, Mr.
Badal said ;" Human life is far more important than any commercial
activity. We in the government can't compromise on this vital
issue as we are duty bound to cherish the aspirations of the people
as per our commitment to the electorate and can't afford to exploit
their sentiments."
He appealed the leaders and opinion makers to rise above from
the party affiliations and come forward to launch a crusade against
the wide spread pollution of air, soil and water. He assured that
the suggestions given by the representatives of different industries
would be taken into consideration while taking any prior decision
on the issue to check water pollution. He said the entire Malwa
belt had been badly affected due to high content of pollutants
in the water, which had rendered thousands of people there physically
incapacitated due to deadly diseases of cancer gastroenteritis
and skin disorders. He said that the government alone was unable
to tackle this problem and people's participation was all the
more important to get the desired results. He assured that industry
would not be uprooted in any case, but at the same time he also
asked the industry to be considerate while discharging industrial
effluents and untreated chemical wastes into the rivers and drains,
which ultimately aggravated the situation beyond anyone's control.
He said we should be honest enough and morally responsible to
extend full cooperation and support to the government to carry
out its mission to eradicate pollution from the state. He, however
said that each one of us should religiously perform our duty to
check the pollution that had played havoc with the lives of innocent
and poor people, who didn't have even enough means for the treatment
and care.
Mr. Badal lauded that role of State Forests Department for bringing
awareness amongst the people for the importance of ecological
balance. He said efforts should be further intensified to bring
more area under green cover to counter the ill effects of the
pollution. He said that planting a tree was merely a ritual unless
it was properly nurtured and preserved for the benefit of future
generation.
Speaking on the occasion Forests and Medical Education Minister,
Mr. Tikshan Sud said that Van Maha Utsav was not merely an occasion
rather a regular campaign to inculcate the sense of belongingness
towards clean and green environment. He said that the State Forests
Department had chalked out a plan to plant 88 lac sapling under
Farm Forestry Scheme on the public land near canals, industrial
area and educational institutions besides the surplus land of
the farmers would also be utilized for this purpose. Mr. Sud underscored
the need to launch an extensive campaign to bring Ludhiana- the
industrial hub of the state under green cover to neutralize the
negative effects of pollution.
In his address, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker, Mr. Charanjit Singh
Atwal stressed the need to plant and preserve the trees to conserve
nature in the larger public interest.
On the occasion Deputy Speaker Mr. Sat Pal Gosian highlighted
the parameters of nature's conservation to ensure balanced growth
of ecological system.
Proment amongst who were present on the occasion included President
BJP State Unit Punjab Prof . Rajinder Bhandari, Vice Chancellor
PAU Dr. Manjit Singh Kang, Financial Commissioner Mr. R C Nayar,
Chief Principal Conservator of Forest Mr. B C Bala, MP Mr. Sharanjit
Singh Dhillon, CPS Mr. Harish Raid Dhanda, Mayor Municipal Corporation,
Mr. Darshan Singh Shivalik MLA, Mr. Hakam Singh Gyaspura besides
the senior leadership of SAD- BJP and the senior officers of police
and civil administration.
Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal along
with Medical Education and Research Minister, Mr. Tikshan Sud
and Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Local Government Mr. Harish
Rai Dhanda visited the Blind Institution at Jamalpur that imparts
academic and technical education to the blind students to make
them self-reliant. Mr. Badal also had a round of the class rooms,
auditorium, ground and the hostel of the institute and interacted
with the blind students and teachers.
After taking stock of the situation and the hardships being
faced by the students, Mr. Badal on the spot announced to enhance
the monthly diet allowance for the students from Rs 600/- to Rs
1200/- per student. He also announced to upgrade the existing
High School in the institute to 10+2 level from the next academic
year. He also directed the Public Health Department to make necessary
arrangements for providing safe drinking water to the students.
Mr. Badal asked the Social Security Women and Child Development
Department to prepare a detailed project for the over all development
of the institute that included maintenance of play grounds, completion
of auditorium and installation of in Browsour machine for the
printing of brail books and literature for the blind students
at a cost of rs 32 lac.
The Chief Minister assured that the state government would extend
fulsome support and financial help to the institute to make it
one of the most prestigious institution for Blind in the region
after Dehra Doon.
