PUNJAB GOVT. TO RECRUIT 2100 COMPUTER
TEACHERS
CHANDIGARH JANUARY 23
Punjab Government today gave in principle approval to recruit
2100 computer teachers to impart computer education to the students
from Class 6 th to 12th in the government schools.
A decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting
chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal here
this evening. It was also decided that these teachers would be
recruited through a proper selection procedure laid down by the
Punjab Information Communication & Technology Education Society
(PICTES). The school education department would send a detailed
proposal in the next meeting of Cabinet for seeking clearance
in this regard. It may be recalled that the PICTES had already
procured hardware on lease, maintain and transfer basis at a cost
of Rs.60 crore. The total financial liability involved in the
recruitment of these computer teachers would be Rs.63 crore annually.
Earlier, the Chief Minister also agreed to transfer 10 acres
of land in village Kotla Devan in Muktsar district for the construction
of Punjab University Regional Centre. At present the Centre was
being run in the premises of Gurdwara. It was also decided to
transfer Rs.1 crore to the department of Public Works (B&R)
for the construction of the regional centre instead of Panjab
University which was earlier announced by Mr.Badal for the regional
centre last year. The newly built complex would house in facilities
to impart vocational training through running short term courses
for the school drop outs to enable them to be gainfully employed.
