CM REGRETS TO FAIL TO ATTENT SHOBHA YATTRA
DUE TO SOME TECHNICAL SNAG IN CHOPPER

Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal was unable to take off for Jalandhar to participate in 'Shobha Yattra' being organized to celebrate 631st birth anniversary of Sri Guru Ravi Dass Ji, due to some major technical snag developed in Chopper at Delhi Air Port.
Disclosing this here today Advisor to Chief Minister, Mr. Daljit Singh Cheema informed that the Chief Minister waited for a long at Delhi Air Port and tried for some other alternate arrangements, which could not be materialized. Mr. Chema said that Chief Minister regretted for not being able to attend this auspicious occasion. He however conveyed his felicitations to the people of Punjab and the organizers of this Shobha Yattra.


PUNJAB GOVT. CONSTITUTES STATE PLANNING BOARD

The Punjab Government today constituted the State Planning Board under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister, Punjab Mr. Parkash Singh Badal. Prof. J.S. Bajaj would be the Vice-Chairman whereas all Ministers and all Parliament Members of the State would be the Members of this Board.
Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the Punjab Government said that the other members to the Board include Chairman of Advisory Committee to Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Finance and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Punjab. The Secretary Planning would be the Member Secretary.
He added that the other non-official members inducted into the Board are Sh. S.P. Oswal, Vardhman Industries, Ludhiana (from Industry), Dr. G. S. Kalkat, former Vice Chancellor and Dr. Manjit Singh Kang, V.C.,P.A.U, Ludhiana (Agriculture), Dr. R.C. Sobti, V.C. Punjab University, Chandigarh (Education), Dr. P.S. Rana , IAS (Retd.), Ex-Chairman, HUDCO, Mr. P.P. Chauhan, Ex-Secretary. Government of India and Mr. G.S. Tewatia, Chief Engineer (Retd.).
The term of Punjab State Planning Board would be for a period of five years i.e. from 12-4-2007 to 11-4-2012 and the term of Prof J.S. Bajaj, Vice Chairman would be for the period from 5-5-2007 to 4-5-2012 whereas the term of non-official members is fixed for a period of two years, he added.
He said that the State Planning Board would make an assessment of the material and human resources of the state including technical personnel and investigate the possibilities of augmenting such of these resources as are found to be deficient in relation to the State requirements. It would also formulate a long-term prospective plan for the most effective and balanced utilization of the State’s resources and also evolve short-term strategy (Five Year Plan) for planned development, examination of different approaches so as to evolve a maximum growth rate, keeping in view the need for social justice.
He further added that the Board would identify factors which tend to retard economic and social development of the State and determine conditions to the established for successful execution of the plans and review the progress of implementation of the plan programme and recommend such adjustments in policies and measures as the review any indicate. It would also assist district authorities in formulating their development plans within the spheres in which such planning was considered useful and feasible and to coordinate these plans with the State plans.
The Planning Board would also make such interim or ancillary recommendations as appear to be appropriate either for facilitating the discharge of the duties assigned to it, or on a consideration of the prevailing economic conditions, current policies, measures and development programmes, or on examination of such specific problems as maybe referred to it for advice by the Govt, he said.


PUNJAB CM GREETS PEOPLE ON THE PARKASH UTSAV OF SRI GURU RAVIDAS JI

Punjab Chief Minister Mr.Parkash Singh Badal today felicitated the people of the State on the 631st ‘Parkash Utsav’ of Sri Guru Ravidas ji- a great spiritual ambassador and messiah of the poor and unprivileged sections of the society.
In a message, Mr. Badal said that Sri Guru Ravidas ji preached the gospels of love, compassion, mutual tolerance, universal brotherhood and oneness of mankind through his life and philosophy. He said that Sri Guru Ravidas made concerted efforts for bringing social equality thereby eradicating the evil of castism from the society. His significant contribution towards carving out the casteless and classless society would ever be remembered.
Mr. Badal further said that Sri Guru Ravidas propagated the values of humanism through his teachings, which were still relevant in the materialistic world. He appealed the people to follow the path shown by the great Guru and exhorted them to make endeavour to ameliorate the lot of poor and downtrodden thereby bridging the gap between have and have-nots for the creation of an egalitarian society- the ultimate goal cherished by Guru ji.
The Chief Minister appealed the people to celebrate the ‘Parkash Utsav’ of Guru ji collectively rising above the parochial considerations of caste, creed, colour and religion.




ROTATIONAL IRRIGATION PROGRAMME FOR RABI SEASON ANNOUNCED

Chandigarh, February 20, 2008

The Irrigation Department, Punjab has announced the Rotational Programme for irrigation for the Rabi Season through Canal water from 23rd February to 1st March, 2008. The channels of Sirhind Canal System would run on priority basis from Patiala feeder, Abohar Branch, Bhatinda Branch, Bist Doab Canal and Sidhwan Branch respectively.
Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the irrigation department said that direct distributaries of Ghaggar link and its off taking channels i.e. Ghaggar Branch and Patiala Minor in Group 'B' being in the Ist preference will run to their indent. Balance water supplies available will be utilised in direct distributaries of Bhakra main line of Group 'A'.
The spokesman further said that the Punjab channels off taking from Harika and Ferozepur Head Works & Branches i.e. Abohar Branch off taking from Sirhind Feeder and its distributaries of group "B" would run on first preference to their indent. Balance water supplies available would be utilised in direct distributaries of Sirhind Feeder in Group "A".
The spokesman also said that the channels off taking from Upper Bari Doab Canal i.e. Lahore Branch with its distributaries being in first Preference would run to their indent, Balance Surplus water available would be utilised in Main Branch lower, Kasur Branch Lower, Sabraon Branch and with its distributaries.
