UT Police have failed to trace the Santro car (HRG-1491) that was used by three drunken youth in an attempt to molest and kidnap an NRI woman on Thursday evening. The incident occurred on the approach road to Kaimbwala village, behind Rock Garden. The woman was rescued by two passersby.

This information was given to the UT Police and the car number was also flashed to the Police Control Room. Despite all this, the car not only crossed the city’s territory, but the UT Police have also failed to trace its owner till date.

Talking to Newsline, Station House Officer, Police Station-3, Inspector Pannu said, “We have sent a policeman to Gurgaon for verification of the ownership of the vehicle so that we get some clue about the persons who were present in the car when the incident took place. However, because of the weekend holidays, we are facing difficulties in tracing the car’s registered owner.”

Ironically, the UT Police have not even taken the statement of the victim on the basis of which some sketches could be prepared.

However, when asked, Inspector Pannu said, “The woman is presently at a hill station and we will take her help when she comes back and get the sketches made so that we could identify the accused.”

The car’s registration number (HRG-1491) seems to be an old registration number. “There are three possibilities - either the number was fake or the old number was retained by the owner of the car. Whatever it is, we would try and unearth it soon,” said a senior police official.
