The Consulate General of India, Los Angeles, in association with the United Indian Associations of Southern California (UIASC), successfully organized the Viksit Bharat Run 2026 at Don Knabe Community Regional Park, Cerritos, bringing together nearly 300 participants from across age groups for a morning of fitness, unity and community engagement.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from children, youth, adults and senior citizens, reflecting the strong spirit of the Indian-American community in Southern California - a community moving forward together. Consul General Dr. K. J. Srinivasa inaugurated and joined the Run alongside community members, interacted with participants and encouraged them
throughout the event.

Addressing the gathering, the Consul General echoed the Government of India’s call for a Viksit Bharat 2047 and Samarth Bharat, highlighting that India’s journey toward becoming a stronger and more developed nation is also about the participation, ideas and contributions of its people around the world.

His message to the youth was especially clear: the future belongs to them. He encouraged young Indian-Americans to dream big, stay connected with India and use their talent, education and ideas to become tomorrow’s innovators, entrepreneurs and global leaders.

The Consul General also highlighted the growing connections between India and Southern California and spoke about the sister-city partnership between Mumbai and Los Angeles as an opportunity to deepen people-to-people, cultural, educational and economic engagement. Business and entrepreneurship also found a place at the Run. Consul General highlighted the
India-US Trade Portal and encouraged entrepreneurs, professionals and businesses in the community to explore the platform and use it to build new connections and opportunities between India and the United States.

Representing the Indian community in SoCal, the participating organizations included UIASC, IALA, GOPIO, Santan Bengali Society, Los Angeles Hindu Temple, SMAP, Maharashtra Mandal LA, AIKOOTAN, NFIA, Step2Step, IASA and OBJP. And it wasn’t just about crossing the finish line. Participants were recognized across generations, with the Consul General
presenting awards in the Under-16, Adult and Senior categories.

During the programme, the Consul General received a proclamation from the California State Assembly recognizing his public service efforts and engagement with communities in Southern California.

Various Community leaders were also recognized for their contributions to the Diaspora. The event reflected the message of “Run for Unity, Run for Progress,” bringing together fitness, community participation and the shared aspiration for a stronger and more developed India. The Consul General extensively engaged with participants and community representatives during the event, further strengthening outreach with the Indian diaspora in Southern California. Different ages. Different backgrounds. One finish line. One shared spirit of progress. “Viksit Bharat Run 2026 - Run for Unity. Run for Progress.”
