Buena Park – Guru Nanak Sikh Temple, USA Board of Directors along with doctors, nurses, and community volunteers hosted the first ever health fair at the Gurudwara on Sunday, April 1, 2007. Valuable information about health services available to the community was constantly relayed by the South Asia Network team member Vandana. Over a hundred health conscious adults were first greeted by volunteers Manpreet Chadha, Simran Kaur, Simran Chadha, Tavleen Kochar, and Director Malvinder Kaur to complete basic information cards. Board members Avtar Singh Chahal and Balraj Singh, Gurmeet Singh Brar, and Gurmit Singh Mehli helped guide people through the various steps of the screening process. Nurses Charan Kooner, Surinder Rhandhawa, Kamaljit Kaur, and Margie took vital signs, tested blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels.

After the testing process, Dr. Daljeet Singh, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Dr. Arinder Chadha, Dr. Bhupinder Bains, and Dr. Surinder Dhaliwal provided guidance on their health screening results and brought awareness of regular checkups. The response from the community was very encouraging. Board Members were asked when the next health fair was going to be held. Next year’s event will have more types of specialized screening and promises to be even more eventful!
