New Delhi, April 8, 2005|

With the turban bill coming up for review before French Parliament next month, a Sikh body on Friday submitted historical references to country's acting ambassador here depicting the turban as an integral and essential element of Sikh faith.

In a memorandum to acting French ambassador Francois Goldblatt, Shiromani Akali Dal Panthak on Friday submitted historical references on the turban issue including the fight of Sikhs for turban in Britain and many European countries.

"We urged the acting ambassador to send our representation to the French Parliament where the bill will come up for review next month," Manjit Singh, President of the Sikh body said after half-an-hour meeting.

Singh said he explained to the French official that there were nearly 40 lakh Sikhs living in various countries and the French law could have a bearing on their rights too. PTI
