bill to come up in French parliament

With the turban bill coming up for review before
French Parliament next month, a Sikh body on Friday
submitted historical references to country's acting
ambassador here depicting the turban as an integral
and essential element of Sikh faith.
In a memorandum to acting French ambassador
Francois Goldblatt, Shiromani Akali Dal Panthak
on Friday submitted historical references on the
turban issue including the fight of Sikhs for turban
in Britain and many European countries.
"We urged the acting ambassador
to send our representation to the French Parliament
where the bill will come up for review next month,"
Manjit Singh, President of the Sikh body said after
half-an-hour meeting.
Singh said he explained to the French
official that there were nearly 40 lakh Sikhs living
in various countries and the French law could have
a bearing on their rights too. PTI
