NRI Sunny Sidhu, CBSA Officer, Sues Indian Canadian Governments for $9 Million

NRI Sandeep “Sunny” Sidhu, a Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) officer, has filed a sweeping lawsuit against both the Indian government and the Canadian federal government, alleging that he was targeted through a coordinated misinformation campaign that damaged his reputation and career. Sidhu is seeking $9 million in damages.
Sidhu alleges that false and defamatory information was circulated against him by individuals linked to Indian authorities, which he says was later echoed or mishandled by Canadian agencies. He claims this alleged campaign portrayed him as being connected to criminal or extremist elements — accusations he firmly denies.
Sidhu argues that the alleged misinformation severely harmed his mental health, professional standing, and personal safety. The lawsuit states that the CBSA failed to protect him despite being aware of the threats and failed to correct the allegedly false information that was damaging his reputation.
Sidhu’s legal counsel claims the misinformation was politically motivated and that both governments failed in their duty of care. The lawsuit names multiple federal bodies, including the CBSA, alleging negligence, defamation, and violation of Sidhu’s charter rights.
Neither the Government of India nor the Canadian federal government has issued an official response regarding the allegations.
