NRI Simran Preet Panesar, a former Air Canada employee and a key suspect in the Pearson Airport gold heist, has been located in India, three months after the massive theft. Panesar, who was an acting supervisor in operations control, is accused of using his access to track and manipulate cargo systems, facilitating the removal of a high-value gold shipment.
Authorities say Panesar played a crucial role in the operation, making 772 calls or messages with accomplices on the day of the heist. Following the theft, he allegedly stopped tracking the shipment and later moved to India. He is currently wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for theft over $5,000 and conspiracy to commit an indictable offense.
Despite being a key suspect, police initially allowed him to leave the country to avoid alerting other potential conspirators. Investigators have since tracked him to Chandigarh, where he has declined to comment on the allegations. Meanwhile, another suspect in the case remains in U.S. custody.
