NEW YORK, Sept 25th — Gatka Federation USA, the national governing body dedicated to standardizing, promoting, and preserving the traditional Sikh martial art of Gatka, has officially announced that it will host the 4th US National Gatka Championship-2026 on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
The championship will take place at The Sikh Center of New York Inc. under the auspices of the World Gatka Federation (WGF), the apex international body for the sport. Members of the Sikh Center management committee recently unveiled the official event poster to mark the countdown to the national tournament.
Fostering Heritage and Athletic Excellence
Dr. Deep Singh, General Secretary of Gatka Federation USA, highlighted that this mark’s the organization's fourth open national championship. Beyond competitive events, the Federation has been actively expanding its footprint across the nation through state-level chapters, hosting comprehensive training camps in collaboration with local Gurdwara committees, educational institutions, and sports bodies.
"Our mission goes beyond competition—we are building a structured foundation for Gatka in the United States," said Dr. Singh. "This national championship offers a unified platform for athletes, coaches, referees, and judges to refine their skills and prepare for future international tournaments."
Event Highlights & Age Categories
S. Kalvinder Singh Fresno, President of Gatka Federation USA, announced that the 2026 championship will showcase both technical mastery and high-intensity combat across multiple age divisions in the Single-Soti category:
- Under-14 Open: Technical Skill Demonstrations
- Under-18 & Under-22 Open: Combat Fights (Singhs and Kaurs)
- Under-25 Open: Kaurs All-Fight Events
Athletes representing state associations across the country are expected to participate, competing for top national honors.
Community Impact & Cultural Legacy
Emphasizing the cultural significance of the sport, Bhai Gagandeep Singh AKJ, Trustee of Gurdwara Sikh Cultural Society New York, and Jaskirat Singh, Joint Secretary of the New York Gatka Association, noted that the championship serves to connect younger generations with the rich history and discipline of Sikh martial arts.
The announcement event was attended by prominent community leaders, sports organizers, and coaches, including Westchester County activist Sarabjit Kaur, alongside Sarabjit Singh DDT, senior New York Gatka coaches Sujan Singh Budha Dal, Jasved Singh, Gurpreet Singh Patiala, and Baljinder Singh Banwait.
