NEW YORK Aug 10 :The World Gatka Federation (WGF), the global governing body for the traditional Sikh martial art, has announced that the 1st International Virsa Sambhal Gatka Championship will take place on Saturday, September 12, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM at Gurdwara Sikh Sangat in Euless, Texas.
The announcement was made jointly by World Gatka Federation Chairman S. Kalvinder Singh, Gatka Federation USA President, and WGF General Secretary Dr. Deep Singh, in special collaboration with the management of Gurdwara Sikh Sangat, Euless Texas.
International Gatka Refresher Course Set for September 11
Dr. Deep Singh shared that a day prior to the tournament, on Friday, September 11, the WGF will host its first-ever International Gatka Refresher Course. The training session aims to enhance the technical proficiency of referees, judges, and official personnel. By standardizing rules and bringing all officials onto a single platform, the federation seeks to build a highly skilled cadre of referees for future local and international events. Dr. Singh emphasized that ongoing workshops and refresher courses are vital to promoting and expanding the reach of Gatka globally.
Event Highlights and Age Categories
Championship Coordinators S. Gurdeep Singh and Harveer Singh expressed their gratitude to the management committee and local congregation of Gurdwara Sikh Sangat, Euless, for their immense support in hosting this landmark event.
The championship will feature three major competitive categories across various    age groups:

• Under-14: Exhibition matches and Single Soti Fight events
• Ages 17, 21, and 25 (Singh & Kaur Divisions): Single-Soti Fight events   

Honored chief guests S. Swarn jit Singh Khalsa—the first Sikh Mayor, City of     Norwich, Connecticut—and S. Himmat Singh, Coordinator of the World Sikh Parliament, will attend the event and present awards to the tournament champions.
Standardized Global Rules and Officiating
Dr. Deep Singh confirmed that all matches will strictly adhere to the official rules published by the World Gatka Federation. A certified panel of referees and judges will oversee the competition to ensure compliance with international standards.
Key organizers, senior coaches, and certified referees present during the announcement included S.
