Los Angeles Association-FICSC Celebrates India Independence Day

Federation of Indian American Community celebrated India Independence day on August 19, 2017 at The Tandoor Restaurant.

The program, emceed by Smita Das, started with Lamp Lighting, for which all the dignitaries and executive committee members were invited. Next was American National Anthem sung by Henna Noor, followed by Indian National Anthem.The Guests of honor included Senator Tony Mendoza, Mayor Ali S Taj, Honorable KV Kumar, Former Mayor Dr Prakash Narain, Former Mayor Pro Tem Harry Sidhu and Dr Krishna Reddy.

The Team that put up the show - Smita Das, President Amrit Bhandari, Chairman Dilip Butani, Secretary Prakash Pancholi, Executive VPs Raj Walia and Dr Sinduri, Treasurer Dr Asmath Noor and Vice Presidents , Ajay Khetani, Ramesh Bhatt, Siddharth Pathak, Co-Chair Mohan Sharma and Dinesh Gala.

Thereafter Chairman Dilip Butani welcomed everyone and spoke briefly about India’s Independence. This was followed by Flag Salutation and Introduction of Team by President Amrit Bhandari. Next was a patriotic song by Veena Singh.

Instead of speeches at one time, this year a new concept was adopted. The program had one speech followed by one cultural item. All the dignitaries spoke about India’s Independence and complimented the team for their hard work. The cultural items included Ganesha Kavuthuvam, Shiva Padam Bhoshambo, Nanha Munna Rahi Hoon Dance, Mumbai Madness Dance, Bhangra, Dance by Henna Noor and songs by Balaji and Ashmath Noor. Most dance items were by students of Savitri Dance Academy, choreographed by Dr Sinduri and one item was choreographed by Smita Das.

There was a wonderful fashion show by renowned couture designers Kimi Tej and Sonia Kohli. The formal program ended with a vote of thanks by Secretary Prakash Pancholi.

Popular singers Ram Tasildar, Ami Khetani and Bhavin Mehta, thereafter, entertained everyone with popular songs. On the occasion FICSC honored Raj Nangia of TV Asia, Gary Singh of NRI Press, Popular Photographers Srini Natrajan & Natrajan Srinivasan, Popular Fashion Designer Kimi Tej, Ramesh Bhatt and Siddharth Pathak.
