In a solemn and inspiring ceremony livestreamed across social
media platforms and viewed by thousands worldwide, the IndoAmerican Press Club (IAPC)
ushered in a new era of leadership and vision on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at the newly renovated
elegant auditorium at the Kerala Center, Elmont, NY.
Dr. Satheesh Kathula, a nationally respected physician, author, educator, and community leader,
was formally inducted as Chairman of the Board of Directors, marking a significant milestone
for the largest organization representing Indianorigin media professionals in North America.
The ceremony, held in the presence of over 100 community, business, and media leaders from
across the New York tristate region, blended tradition, reflection, and celebration. The gala was
sponsored, among others by Suresh Nichani of the Real Assets, Wall Street Alliance, and AAPI
QLI.
Shri Piyus Singh, Consul for Press and Information at the Indian Consulate in New York,
presented the awards to the honorees. In his address, Mr. Singh said, “The achievements of
Indian Americans have become a global benchmark—communities across the world look to
replicate the success and impact you have created in the United States.” Elaborating on the
success story of the Diaspora, he said, “The Indian diaspora in the United States have
distinguished themselves across sectors, setting benchmarks of achievement and integrity.”
IAPC Founding Chairman Ginsmon Zachariah, along with former Chair of IAPC, Kamlesh
Mehta administered the oath of office, reaffirming IAPC’s commitment to journalistic
excellence, ethical leadership, and community empowerment. They administered the oath to the
newly appointed Board of Directors, Executive Committee members, and local chapter leaders,
signaling a unified and forwardlooking leadership team. Bob Varghese was inducted as an
Honorary Member of IAPC for his steadfast support to the media.
A Chairman Rooted in Service, Vision, and Storytelling
In his acceptance remarks, Dr. Kathula offered a deeply personal reflection on the origins of his
respect for journalism. Growing up in a small Indian town without television, he recalled how
newspapers and radio became his “window to the world,” shaping his understanding of culture,
sports, and global affairs. Early encouragement for his writing, he said, instilled in him a lifelong
appreciation for the power of storytelling.
He spoke candidly about the challenges facing journalism today — misinformation, political
polarization, and information overload — and underscored the essential role of media
professionals in safeguarding truth.
“Journalism is not just reporting — it is accountability, it is responsibility, it is the impact that
you create in society,” he said.
Drawing on his leadership experience across national organizations, including his recent tenure
as President of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), Dr. Kathula
urged journalists to embrace their role as cultural and diplomatic bridges between India and the
United States. “Media has a great responsibility to be the bridge between India and America… your work makes a tremendous impact in the community.”
As Chairman, Dr. Kathula has pledged to modernize IAPC’s digital outreach, strengthen ethics in
reporting, and elevate the quality of health and science journalism across the diaspora.
Working alongside him is Founder Chairman and Board Secretary Ginsmon Zacharia, a veteran
media strategist with more than 24 years of experience across Europe and the United States. As
CEO of The Asian Era, Inc. and Publisher of Jaihind Vartha, Zacharia has played a pivotal role
in expanding Malayalam and English diaspora media networks globally.
Mr. Mehta in his address said, “IAPC is more than an organization — it is a movement. A
movement for truth, for representation, and for the next generation of storytellers.”
Ajay Ghosh, Founder President of IAPC, while describing the challenges faced by journalists
around the world, captured the spirit of the event: “When we tell our stories, we claim our place
in history. When we tell them with integrity, we strengthen democracy itself.”
IAPC Chronicles elegantly edited and published by Dr. Mathew Joys was released during the
gala.
Dr. Kathula officially announced the next edition of the International Media Conference in
Cincinnati, OH from October 23-25, 2026.
Shan Justus, a Board member and a key player in organizing the gala provided insights into the
International Media Conference, which is the most important event hosted by IAPC. At the end,
he proposed the vote of thanks.
Patricia Uma Shanakr, who played a vital role along with the others in planning and organizing
the event, eloquently emceed the event.
