International Mother Language Day celebration

Punjabi Language Education Association (PLEA) will be celebrating via Zoom its 19th International Mother Language Day on Sunday, February 27 from 1:30 to 4 PM. MC Kamaljit Kaur  Kambo will begin with greetings from PLEA partners Kwantlen Polytechnic University and Deepak Binning Foundation. PLEA’s President Balwant Sanghera and Vice President Sadhu Binning will give brief reports about this organization’s recent activities, accomplishments and challenges. LA Matheson High School teacher Parabhjot Kaur will talk about the short stories by students of Punjabi. A national panel consisting of Punjabi scholars Dr. Gurnam Singh Dhillon from Toronto, Dr. Harjit Singh Grewal and Dalbir Singh from Edmonton, Sukhbir Grewal from Calgary and Gurinder Mann from Vancouver will discuss issues relating to Punjabi language. Young Punjabi learners will share poetry, songs and stories with the audience.  

                              There is no doubt that Punjabi language has now become a prominent language at the international level. Out of some 7,000 languages spoken around the globe and recognized by UNESCO, Punjabi stands at tenth place from top. It is spoken by more than 150 million people spread out in more than 170 countries. In countries like Canada, U.S.A., U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Europe etc. Punjabi language and Punjabi speakers are flourishing and making excellent contribution to their communities and their language. PLEA cordially invites everyone to join and be part of this annual celebration on Sunday, February 27.
