Richmond is bleesed to have a very unique tourist attraction called Highway to Heaven. Within a few kilometers of Richmond's #5 Road, there are close to 25 places of worship of different denominations. All of these places of worship work closely to-gether in welcoming visitors.Furhtermore, members of the Highway to Heaven group support each other,co-operate with each other and stand to-gether with each other.
This stretch of # 5 Road in Richmond is very popular with tourists. . However, it provides a great learning experience for students from all over. In very short time they can visit and learn about some of the major religions of the world.. It was not long ago, that 13 United Nations Ambassadors visited our Highway to Heaven and learned a lot about the amicable relationships between various religious groups .
Similarly, Canada's National Film Board made an impressive documentary about this unique attraction. On Tuesday, October 20,2026, 158 grade 12 students from Abbotsford under the leadership of Dr. David MacLauren were pleased to visit the Highway to Heaven in general and India Cultural Centre of Canada Gurdwara Nanak Niwas in particular. On behalf of the Gurdwra Management they were welcomed by Secretary Balwant Sanghera .
Sanghera spoke to the students about the Sikh religion and its basic philosophy and principles. Sikhism does not beleive in the cast system. Sikhs beleive in one God. Sikhism 's founder Guru Nanak Dev ji gave the Sikhs thre golden/basic rules -make an honest living, be generous and help others as much as you can and meditate in the name of God Almighty .As part of the presentation, the students aked very intersting questions ,took some pictures and thanked Sanghera and the Gurdwra mangemnt for a very warm welcome. ( One group picture of the students and one of Balwant Sanghera and Dr. David Maclauren are attached).
