Without any hesitation Gurdwara Nanak Niwas management provided themwith considerable assistance.Thompson Sikh Gurdwara Society representatives wereever so thankful to us for this. These are just a few examples of India Cultural Centre ofCanada Gurdwara Nanak Niwas Society helping with so many of worthwhile causes.
Gurdwara Nanak Niwas is a very popular place for students and visitorswho want to learn more about Sikhism, Punjabi culture and the Punjabi community. As the headquarters of our Highway to Heaven, we are in an excellent position to
welcomevisitors, provide them with the information they are seeking and connect them with otherplaces of worship on our Highway to Heaven, aka #5 Road. They appreciate it verymuch and come back regularly. In addition to being a very popular place for weddings, this Gurdwara also runs several programs for the benefit of the community. Forexample, for the past several years, this Gurdwara has been running Punjabi classesfor young students. This provides them with an excellent opportunity to
connect withtheir heritage, Punjabi language, culture and Sikhism.
The classes for this year havejust gone under way. New
and more students are always welcome. In addition to running the Punjabi classes, the Gurdwara management isalso running
several other programs. These include Chai Chaupal or the Village Sath. This program includes both males and females who meet at the Gurdwara everyMonday from 1PM to 3 PM. This group meets in a very cordial nvironment.Refreshments are provided by some caring individuals and the Gurdwara. In addition tothat, the ladies meet everyTuesday at 10 AM for the Sukhmani Sahi Paath. Thisprovides an excellent opportunity for them to socialize and have langar to-gether.EveryWednesday, at 6PM, students from UBC and Simon Fraser University run a program inthe Yoga Centre for seniors .It is called Health and Wellness for Seniors.
