Abbotsford Students Visit Richmond Gurdwara

Richmond’s Highway to Heaven is a very popular place to visit. Nearly every day, visitors come to this unique part of Richmond -5 Road between Cambie Road and Steveston Highway, to pay homage at different places of worship. Nearly 25 places of worship of different denominations are a pride of this community. They get an opportunity to learn about different religions, cultures and communities. India Cultural Centre of Canada Gurdwara Nanak Niwas, 8600 #5 Road is a welcoming place for visitors. Many students from different parts of BC visit this Gurdwara on a regular basis. On Tuesday, August 4, Secretary Balwant Sanghera had the honour to welcome 25 students from Vancouver’s Youth with a Mission.
These students from Abbotsford were hosted by the Youth with Mission, Vancouver. They are part of Christian Life Community Church (Pentecostal). These students were in Vancouver partnering with Mission Adventures doing street ministry and giving out food to the homeless. On behalf of Gurdwara Nanak Niwas Management, Sanghera welcomed them and gave an overview of the Sikh religion, South Asian community and its contribution to BC and Canada. The students asked very interesting questions about the part the Gurdwaras play in the community and for the worshippers. It was a very enriching learning experience for them. After taking some pictures, the students enjoyed a delicious langar in the Gurdwara’s spacious Langar Hall. Before leaving they thanked Sanghera and the management committee for a very warm welcome and a delicious vegetarian lunch.
Visits and welcomes like this greatly enhance the image and recognition of the wonderful work these places of worship do for their communities and Canada.
