Mahatma Gandhi statue in Waikiki, Honolulu

Honorable Indian Defense Minister, Shree Rajnath Singh, visited the Hawaiian Island for 2 days. He was warmly welcomed by Dr. Raj Kumar, President of Indian-American Friendship Council (Hawaii Chapter) and other prominent residents of Indian community at Hilton Hawaiian Village hotel in Waikiki, Honolulu on April 12, 2022.
Despite of his very busy schedule, Honorable Indian Defense Minister visited Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on April 13, 2022. He was accompanied by the Consulate General of India- San Francisco, Dr. TV Nagendra Prasad, Indian navy officials and officials from the US Government.

Honorable Indian Defense Minister paid tribute to “The Father of the Nation” by lighting candles and offering flowers. He also draped Hawaiian lei on Bapu’s statue.
Dr. Raj Kumar, founder of Gandhi International Institute for Peace facilitated the ceremony by singing Gandhiji’s favorite devotional song “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram…..” The short ceremony was concluded by everyone singing the National Anthem of India. The ceremony was attended by the local Indian community.
Honorable Indian Defense Minister has a charismatic personality. He is also pleasant to talk to, great listener, kind, gentle, humble, respectful and friendly with others.
Overall, it was a proud moment and a heart-warming experience to meet with one of the great leaders of India, which I will cherish the memory for the rest of my life. |
