About Gurbachan Singh Grewal:

In 1986, Gary Grewal started  manufacturing company as Magnetic Information Technology and also to set up the first 100% export unit In Mohali

As a successful entrepreneurs,  he started fast food industry ( Subway Sandwich Franchisee)  in 1989.  Later he  became Subway Sandwich Franchisee.

In 2005, he got into Gas Station , Motel business and real estate business.

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh nominated Los Angeles based Gurbachan (Gary) Singh Grewal as Honorary Member of Punjab State Commission for NRIs on Friday, July 12, 2019.

Gurbachan, Gary Singh Grewal assume the charge in the presence of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, NRI Affairs and Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Chairman, Punjab State Commission for NRIs Justice (Retd.) Rakesh Kumar Garg, Principal Secretary, NRI Affairs Rahul Bhandari, Special Secretary NRI Affairs MP Arora and Secretary NRIs Commission Amaninder Kaur were also present on the occasion.  CM's Media Advisor Raveen Thukral at Commission's office in Mini Secretariat, Chandigarh was also present.

The NRI Commission of Punjab is a four member State Commission with powers of a civil court with the objective to safeguard the interests of the NRI community in the state.

  • The Commission would have all powers of the civil court, particularly in the matters such as summoning and enforcing the attendance of any person, examining him on oath and requiring the discovery and production of documents.
  • The Commission will also have the power to receive evidence on affidavits, requisitioning any public record or copy thereof from any court or office, issuing commissions for the examination of witnesses and documents and any other matter which may be prescribed.

The Commission is headed by:

  • One retired judge of High Court
  • Other members include an IAS officer not below the rank of Principal Secretary or Financial Commissioner to the state government
  • and an IPS officer not below the rank of ADGP.

The chairperson and the members are appointed by the state government for a period of three years and the chairperson or a member would be eligible for reappointment for another term of three years.

Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), belonging to Punjab, who want the intervention of NRI Commission of Punjab for solution of their personal matters like property disputes, matrimonial or financial disputes, or even criminal cases, are just a phone call or an e-mail away from relief. All they have to do is to file a representation giving full details/facts in writing/ online to the Member NRI Commission of Punjab

Gurbachan Singh Grewal of  Northridge California moved to US in 1981.  Grewal, son of Military officer, belongs to village Phallewal (near Gujjarwal/Kila Raipur), District Ludhiana. 
Grewal went to Chail Military School  and  received Mechanical Engineering degree from Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh.

Grewal started his career in politics in 2002 when Captain Amrinder Singh became Chief Minister of Punjab.

In 2016, he worked with Captain Amrinder Singh very closely in election campaign.
