Attari Border, May 20 Asserting that Pakistan is prepared to build a road in its territory, Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) president Bishan Singh today asked the SGPC and the DSGMC to urge the Indian government to open a route to Kartarpur Sahib through Dera Baba Nanak.

Bishan Singh, who has come to India with an inter-faith peace mission that also includes Sikhs from Pakistan and members from various human rights organisations, said during their trip to India, they would visit various Sikh shrines and other places of worship with a view to spread the message of peace. “We will also visit the Golden Temple and the Jallianwala Bagh,” he said. He also demanded easing up of visa norms for pilgrims. Mehnaz, a human rights activist, said they would also visit the Amritsar Central Jail to interact with the Pakistani prisoners.

On the death penalty awarded to Sarabjit Singh, she said all human rights organisations in Pakistan wanted capital punishment to be converted to life imprisonment. Echoing Mehnaz’s views, Rawail Singh, a Pakistani Sikh, said a probe should be conducted into the claims that Sarabjit Singh was not Manjit Singh. “This is a serious issue and should be duly investigated,” he said. Amir Singh, another Sikh delegate, demanded justice for the Pak nationals in Indian jails.
