NRI, (non-resident Indian) Baljit Singh Chadha,
53 started his business in 1976 by borrowing $5000.00
about 25 years back and now he is the Chairman of
a multi-million dollar corporation, Balcorp Limited
with annual sales worth up to $100 million a year.
Mr. Chadha was educated in English at Catholic schools,
then graduated with B.Sc. degrww at Bombay University.
His father, Jagjit, wanted him to join the family
food business but was accepted in the University of
Western Ontario's M.B.A., one of the best in the world.
He eventually switched to Concordia University in
Montreal, working part-time with his cousin, who was
a chartered accountant.
While still a student, he started importing and
exporting foods from and to India, specializing in
nuts and dried fruit. Almonds, pistachios and walnuts
from California, cashews from India and Brazil, peanuts
from the U.S., India and Argentina.
