In probably the first such incident of its kind, an
Indian origin Canadian has dragged a casino in Nepal to court for violating
the norms of a card game.
The casino located in the complex of Everest Hotel,
a five star property at Nayabaneshwor in Kathmandu has been sued by
Amit Bedi, a frequent visitor, for violating casino rules while playing
Blackjack, a card game, Registrar at the KDC Balabhadra Banstola said.
Bedi has claimed that he lost 5.7 million Indian rupees
and 1,95,400 Canadian dollars between August 2003 and July 2004 at the
casino.
He alleged that the casino uses only three decks of
cards as against the conventional rule, which requires the use of four
decks.
However, a casino staff has denied the charge saying
that they play the game in four decks.
May be during a few occasions while imparting training
to new people three decks were used, Gaming Executive at the casino
Prem Rajbhandari said.
Bedi filed the case under the contract act and demanded
compensation for the lost amount, Banstola said adding this is probably
the first such case registered by any gambler in the court.
In such a case, the court may ask the casino to produce
evidence within one month and it may take six months to one year to
give the final verdict, he said.
